Climate change caused by humans is real and scientists keep warning us about how serious it is. In order to educate people about global warming, climate scientist Ed Hawkins created an animated graphic which proves that climate change is not a hoax, but a real threat that needs to be taken seriously.

In less than a minute you will be able to see 166 years of climate change before your eyes. This graphic includes data from January 1850 to March 2016 and presents all this information as a spiral contained inside a circle. It starts with the average weather from 1850-1900 which is taken as zero, and from there shows yearly changes. Red borders of the circle stand for 1.5° and 2° Celsius degrees, while colors spinning from the middle represent temperature averages in a time frame.  And as expected you can see that since 1850, temperature is constantly increasing year by year.

Data collected since 1850 was used in order to reduce ambiguity, as previous measurements are not that reliable. A gridded dataset from Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction Research based in the U.K. was taken as reference due to its meticulous weather observations. Ed Hawkins also claims that humans are responsible for this change, which gives us some hope as this means that we are also responsible for the future of our planet.

It’s time to do our part and start taking measures to stop climate change before it’s too late. We need to avoid an increase of more than 2° degrees Celsius; a digit that has been reported for many climate scientists as a point of no return. This increase is not something insignificant, as it could bring a massive global threat for several plants and animal species, including humans.

Bottled Air: A Craze in China!

As weird as it sounds, bottled air is in demand and people in China are paying for it. Pollution in China is at its extreme and health-conscious people are getting bottles of fresh air shipped from overseas. They are paying more than $20 for some breaths which are not from their polluted country.

Moses Lam from Canada was the first person to sell bottled air on EBay. Everybody thought it was a joke, but today, his company, Vitality Air, seems to be minting money. The company’s website gets so many orders from China that the site keeps crashing; the buyers are not only from China but from all over the world.

A canister of fresh air costs $20 to $32 and will last you 150 to 200 breaths. Vitality Air has already sold more than 12,000 canisters of air in China. Vitality Air is not the only company that seems to be benefiting from selling air; there are many other companies, such as Aethaer, who have joined the group as air traders.

Aethaer air jars are shockingly high in price. The owner, Leo de Watts, is a British man settled in Hong Kong and sells air from UK. He boasts that the air in Aethaer jars is filtered organically. According to Watts, a heavy breather will finish a jar earlier than a small breather and that every jar is an exclusive work of art which symbolizes status for those who can afford to buy canned air and make others aware of the pollution problems.

Millions of deaths have been reported in China from the inhalation of polluted air that has a harmful particulate which damages the lungs.

Customers are seemingly aware of this, which is the reason why they are ready to pay such prices for something that has always been free. But hey! People once said the same about bottled water, so maybe we are going to see more of these bottled air cans around the world in a not so distant future. What do you think?
